Finding meaningful work

Because work is so central to our life, discovering meaningful work is an essential part of living a meaningful life. Work need not be a pay check or a grind, it can be a calling as Van Gogh, one of my favourite impressionist artists, spoke with passion:

“Your profession is not what brings home your weekly pay check, your profession is what you're put here on earth to do, with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling.”

As Kahlil Gibran has said so beautifully:

Work is love made visible

More recently than Gibran, Brené Brown reflected:

Squandering our gifts brings distress to our lives. As it turns out, it's not merely benign or 'too bad' if we don't use the gifts that we've been given; we pay for it with our emotional and physical well-being. When we don't use our talents to cultivate meaningful work, we struggle. We feel disconnected and weighted down by feelings of emptiness, frustration, resentment, shame, disappointment, fear, and even grief.”

Veronica helped me to refocus, step up and create the energy and momentum to move forward in my career. I experienced her as empathetic, highly professional and exceptionally skilled human being. She helped me increase clarity, self-awareness, recognise personal blockages and to actively push through them. Simply put, the reason why I am moving forward with my life is because Veronica helped me. I count myself privileged to have crossed paths with her and can highly recommend her.

You may be:

  • stuck, bored or at a crossroads

  • or in the career doldrums,

  • ready to transition back to work,

  • or transition out to something new

  • or facing a challenge at work that you cannot resolve

If what I am sharing resonates with you, let’s discuss how we can work together.

I help clients do the deep work required to unlock possibilities and the courage to chart a path that is uniquely personal and honouring of their gifts and talents.

I have worked in the field of career psychology for more than 2 decades and I have helped many people navigate career transitions and reshape or reinvent their careers as they grow and evolve and as the world of work changes and requires different skills.

I am an associate career coach at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business and have helped numerous Executive MBA students navigate career transitions. I have also helped technical experts (actuaries, accountants, engineers, software developers) transition to leadership roles successfully, or to decide that this is not where meaning lies for them.

I too have made a number of transitions in my career and appreciate the value and satisfaction that comes from constantly stretching and reshaping how I best use my talents and gifts.
